Charlene Dent contacted the East Central ISBDC for help in writing abusiness plan and get financing so that she could open a coffee shop. She worked with the business advisor on her financial analysis and business plan. He supplied Charlene with industry-specific information concerning equipment, coffee, customer service, ESRI reports and personal experience. He had previously owned a coffee shop!
The business advisor also worked with Charlene in obtaining training funds from Work One which allowed her to take classes in making espresso drinks from a local roaster.
Café Royal opened the end of January 2009. Business has been brisk and the community has embraced the coffee shop.
“I am thankful for the services that Tom Steiner provided during this startup process,” stated Dent. She continued, “His expertise in coffee making and his desire to help me was more than I could have ever asked for. From assisting me with training from Work One to providing practical tips for daily operations, Mr. Steiner and the SBDC was the best. I do not know what I would have done without their services. I look forward to continuing to work with the SBDC as my business grows. Thanks SBDC!”
