Molargik approached the Northeast Indiana SBDC when she was interested in purchasing Lanternier-Vesey Flowers and Gifts, Fort Wayne’s oldest flower shop, from her employer of four years. Although Molargik has 24 years of experience in floral design, she needed guidance in buying and organizing the business.
That’s where SBDC counselor Karen VanGorder came into play. “Karen was wonderful,” according to Molargik. “She helped me write the business plan and review and understand the financial records. She also stood beside me as I met with the lawyer, the banker, and the previous owners, and provided guidance on everything. I would have been lost otherwise,” she said.
Molargik opened Lanternier-Vesey under her ownership on February 1, 2007, and is enjoying the satisfaction of owning and running her own business. She is planning an Open House to celebrate her first holiday season as owner of the flower and gift shop.
