Joyce Scott is the owner of Rolling Scones, a bakery and café located in Goshen. Joyce started the business in November, 2008 and first engaged the SBDC in September, 2009. At that point Joyce was renting kitchen time from a cake shop and her market was made up entirely of wholesale accounts, primarily coffee shops and Bed and Breakfast establishments. The cake shop decided to cease operations and Joyce decided to rent the space, which also provided an opportunity to add a retail component to her operation.
The ISBDC’s assistance to Joyce included a detailed financial analysis in advance of the transition to a full time facility, including cost/volume/profit analysis that enabled Joyce to understand how much the business would need to grow in order to support the increased overhead. Additional assistance included development of prospective customer lists for wholesale sales, marketing planning, costing and pricing analysis, and QuickBooks training followed by counseling to support utilization of the software.
Joyce has successfully transitioned to a retail oriented business that continues to grow, creating three new part time positions with the promise of additional future job creation.
