Anchor Point Insurance

Anchor Point Insurance is an independent insurance agency in Bicknell, Indiana, helping individuals, families, and businesses protect what matters most. Owner Holly Curtis-Phipps offers home, auto, commercial, event, and life insurance through Erie Insurance and other trusted carriers, giving customers affordable options and personal guidance.

Before opening her agency, Holly built a career in health care purchasing and later in human resources with Lowe’s, where she managed scheduling, staffing, interviewing, and training while completing her bachelor’s degree. Looking for her next step, she earned her insurance adjuster’s license in November 2025. When she learned there were fewer adjuster opportunities than expected, a conversation with an insurance agent opened a new door: start her own insurance agency.

Holly connected with the Southwest Indiana Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in December 2025 and participated in their Launching Your Own Business class. She especially valued the QuickBooks workshop with PennyTracker, saying it gave her access to practical startup support she would not have been able to afford on her own. She also began meeting with David Jones, her business advisor, at The Pantheon in Vincennes to develop her business plan, build cash flow projections, set up QuickBooks, and create a marketing calendar. That preparation helped Holly confidently establish her LLC, organize her financial accounts, and prepare for the transition from a steady salary to entrepreneurship.

Anchor Point Insurance operates from a building Holly has owned for 19 years, formerly a Chevy dealership. Holly, her husband, and family transformed the old showroom into two offices to keep costs manageable. Her niece and daughter assist with social media and administrative work, while her husband is pursuing his own insurance license to support the growing business.

For Holly, insurance is about much more than selling a policy. She takes time to explain deductibles, coverage, and options so customers understand exactly what they are purchasing. “A lot of people buy insurance blindly,” she says. Her favorite moments are seeing customers leave informed, satisfied, and sometimes with money saved. Her goal is reflected in the agency’s name: to be an anchor for people when life changes quickly and they need help getting back on solid ground.

With support from local businesses, Bicknell Mayor Thomas Estabrooke, the Knox County Chamber of Commerce, fellow insurance agents, and Erie Insurance’s training and marketing programs, Holly is building strong community connections. She is reaching customers through flyers, social media, local events, a referral program, and a new insurance education podcast coming soon. Looking ahead, Holly hopes to grow Anchor Point Insurance into a broader resource, potentially adding health and Medicare insurance services.

Holly’s advice for aspiring entrepreneurs is simple: research thoroughly and plan ahead before taking the next step. Her own preparation, paired with support from family, local partners, and the SBDC, helped turn a career pivot into a business built to serve her community.
