After you’ve feasted on eastern European and international delicacies at Slaviansky Bazar, and then decide you need some physical training to fit into your holiday clothes, you can sign up at IM=X Pilates Studio. Both of these recently opened Hamilton County businesses have benefited from SBA guaranteed loans and the advisory assistance of the business analysts with the Central Indiana SBDC.

Tatsiana Melnichak, Slaviansky Bazar
Mrs. Tatsiana Melnichak was granted an $85,000 loan through Fifth Third Bank. Starting her own business has been a dream come true and she commented that she appreciated our assistance. “Since I’m from Russia I was a little nervous about my English and how my business plan would be received by the bank. Not only did the SBDC analyst give me constructive help with my plan, but also provided much needed moral support. It’s wonderful to know that I have an organization like the SBDC behind me.”

Jennifer Coleman and her husband Tim opened in the upscale residential development, Villages of West Clay, and benefited from the analyst’s review of their business plan as well as introductions to three commercial banks. They settled on Old National Bank and obtained a loan for $80,000.

Business has developed well and Jennifer said, “We were very impressed with the level of assistance we received. The SBDC gave us feedback on both our business and marketing plans, explained our financing options, and introduced us to our banker. I attended the SBDC seminar "Starting a Small Business" and found it extremely helpful. We are very appreciative of all the help we have received from the SBDC.”

During 2006, special programs to reach and assist high growth, technology based firms will be instituted as a method to spur economic development.
